Every part we sell carries a BM Catalysts part number — and the number itself tells you what the part is. Here’s how to read it, straight from the manufacturer’s own numbering system.
Prefixes: what the part is
| Prefix | Product |
|---|---|
| BM11 | Diesel particulate filter (DPF) |
| BM15 | Gasoline particulate filter (GPF) |
| BM31 | Selective catalytic reduction unit (SCR) |
| BM5 | Connecting pipe |
| BM7 | Front pipe |
| BM8 | Diesel catalytic converter |
| BM9 | Petrol catalytic converter |
| BMU | Universal catalytic converter |
| FK | Fitting kit |
| PP | Pressure pipe |
Suffixes: approval and grade
- H — Homologated. The part is type-approved: independently certified to meet the legal performance standard for the vehicles it’s catalogued against. Most vehicles registered since March 2001 legally require an approved part — see type approval and the law.
- P — Premium. On DPFs, the premium range uses a silicon carbide (SiC) filter core in place of the standard cordierite ceramic. Silicon carbide is one of the hardest materials known, with a melting point around 2,700°C — far beyond anything regeneration can throw at it — 99% filtration efficiency, and excellent thermal-shock resistance. Premium SiC DPFs carry a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty against manufacturing defects, versus 2 years for the standard range.
So, for example, BM11003H is a type-approved DPF, and BM11003HP is the same fitment in the premium silicon-carbide version.
Fitting kits and pressure pipes
Where a matching FK fitting kit exists for a part, you’ll find it linked on the product page — new gaskets, clamps, nuts and bolts specified for that exact installation. The manufacturer’s fitting guidance is to use a new fitting kit wherever possible, because reused or corroded fixings are a common cause of leaks and fitting problems. PP pressure pipes are the small-bore pipes that connect a DPF to its differential pressure sensor; they should be checked, and replaced if in any doubt, whenever a DPF is changed — a split or blocked pressure pipe gives the ECU false readings and can block a brand-new filter.
Serial numbers — record yours before fitting
Each BM Catalysts unit also carries a unique serial number: six letters beginning with “C” or “D”, pin-stamped on the body and printed on the paperwork. Note it down before the part is fitted — it can be hard to read once installed, and it’s needed for any warranty query (see warranty and how to claim).
Searching by a competitor’s or OE number
